Gathering Inspiration: Rockabilly Batman! (Best. Thing. Ever.)

I was strolling around the internet this morning and I stumbled upon these absolutely brilliant concepts for the Batman universe with a 50's rockabilly spin. I had to post them up here, its an amazing combination of two of things I am absolutely fascinated by. It's one of those "i wish i thought of that!!!" moments. Just look at them! (the illustrator of these pieces is Denis Medri. More of his work can be found on his DeviantArt here.)

Commission: 'Innerspace Adventures Through the Human Body!' Final Animation

I made it! I'm pretty happy with how everything has turned out, although there are aspects I will have to go back and revise after the crit (notably, there are no scrolling buildings in any shots other than the side on ones, simply because I didn't have the time to figure out how to skew the perspective in After Effects). Other than these hiccups though, I'm pretty happy with what I've achieved here (even if it is unrefined).

Commission: Animation Progress 23/5/12

This is the current progress of my animation, with a couple of scenes missing (notably, the Cell Division After Effects sequence, which makes up an entire minute of the animation). I've tweaked most of the shots in After Effects, although I want to do a lot more with them if I have the time before the crit. I'm going to focus on putting the shots and sounds together before I attempt to alter anything in After Effects, so at least I have a complete and viewable animation that puts the point across clearly.

Commission: Texturing Progress

These are the three cells textured, as well as the highway and the police station exterior. I still need to texture the interior and model a couple more elements before everything can be animated.

Commission: UV Mapping

Here are the main elements of the animation UV mapped. I've got a couple of smaller bits left to model etc, but I've got enough to texture and animate now.

Commission: Final Cell Models and Police Station Exterior

Here are the final, untextured models that will be used in my final animation. I've still got to sort the Police Station interior and a couple of other smaller elements and everything needs a bit of a tidy up, stray polygons etc, but other than that, everything model-wise is pretty much sorted. Next step, mapping and texturing!

Commission: The First Few Seconds of My After Effects Sequence

The first few seconds of my Mitosis After Effects sequence. I've played around with expressions in order to make the various components jiggle and float, and I'm currently pre-composing each component with its set movements so that I can simply move the pieces into place, retaining their properties and keeping my work area a little tidier.

@ Alan/Simon/Tom: Skinning Trouble

I'm having a bit of trouble with the first skinning tutorial. The l_pinky_jnt3 is not bound to the skin, although the rest of the rig is. I've normalised the rest of the weights, but when I tried to find l_pinky_jnt3 in the component editor, it was missing, so there are no influences for the joint. Is there any way I can fix this without having to start back at the beginning?

Commission: Bacteria Modelling Progress 15/5/12

Here is the start of my Bacteria model. Being that it is the 'enemy' in this scenario and the opposite to the White Blood Cell 'police car', I've loosely modelled it off of Bonnie and Clyde's 'Death Car', with a space-age spin.

Commission: Background Scenery Motion Test

Just a quick test to try and work out how the buildings will react with one another when in motion. Further away from the camera, slower transition across the screen and vice versa.

Commission: Background Scenery

I've created some basic Googie-inspired buildings to fit in the background of my animation, to save me time modelling each and every one. I've designed them so that they can fit together in a variety of different ways, providing the illusion that the city is made up of tons of different buildings (an example of the buildings fitting together can be seen in the top-centre). I intend to animate them in After Effects, moving them past the screen in order to give the impression that the Cells are rushing past. I can place them in 3D space and give them a bit of depth and parallax with the movement too, which should hopefully make them a little more convincing. They're very simple in appearance, but that fits with the overall aesthetic of the world I'm creating, plus, they're going to be rushing past fairly rapidly, so detail isn't a huge concern.

Commission: White Blood Cell Modelling Progress 12/5/12

Just a bit of progress on the modelling of the White Blood Cell. I've put down the basic geometry of the main body, although it needs a fair bit of tweaking all over, plus edges need to be bevelled and small elements put into place. The modelling should be sorted by tomorrow evening, after which I will move on to modelling the Bacteria and Red Blood Cells (given that they've got a very basic construction, they shouldn't take too long to model).
