Intro to Maya: Bottle and Label Shader

This is the resulting image from the Bottle and Label Shader tutorial. Left to render overnight, as it seemed to be drastically more demanding than the previous projects.
It took longer than usual to complete the tutorial, when I encountered an issue with the layered shader which didn't allow me to apply the glass blinn and the label texture simultaneously. After half an hour of trial and error, Simon and I finally figured out what was wrong and got the label and the glass to appear normally.
Unfortunately, there is still a problem with the render, as there is no shadow being cast by the glass bottle itself, only the liquid within. I will go back and see what I can do to rectify this when I can.

Intro to Maya: Stylistic Lighting

These are the various renders from the stylistic lighting tutorial. I followed the tutorial as closely as possible, but a couple of the resulting renders weren't as similar as I'd have hope. In these cases, I altered various lighting attributes in order to emulate the desired effect.

Intro to Maya: Three Point Lighting

This is the final render from the three point lighting tutorial. The scene is lit by three, specifically placed spotlights, from either side of the scene and behind.

Intro to Maya: Two Point Lighting

This is the final render from the two point lighting tutorial. The scene is lit by a directional light and a coloured spotlight to add a red hue.

Intro to Maya: One Point Lighting Rear

This is the final render of the rear 1 point lighting tutorial. The scene is lit by a rear position area light and an ambient light situated above the figure.

Intro to Maya: One Point Lighting Front

This is the final render of the frontal 1 point lighting scene, lit using a basic area light.

Intro to Maya: Desk Fan

Once again, not a lot to say. I'll just take you through the different renders.
Took a fairly long time to make. To put the time in perspective, I managed to watch both series' of 'Spaced' whilst following the tutorial. So, yeah, a fairly long time.

This is the fan with no smooth modifier, lit only by a spotlight.

This shows the fan with the smooth modifier applied, lit only by a spotlight.

This shows the fan with the smooth modifier and an ambient light in addition to the spotlight.

This is the above render with the ambient light made slightly brighter.

This shows the fan with the reflectivity reduced on the fan blades and centre cap, with the same light settings as above.

Intro to Maya: Ballpoint Pen

Not much to say, really. This is the ballpoint pen
created following the tutorial.

This is the pen without the smooth modifier and using the lighting settings specified in the tutorial.

This render shows the smooth modifier, but with the tutorial specified lighting settings intact.

This render shows the smooth modifier applied and the ambient light settings altered to make the scene slightly brighter.

This is a reposition of the camera, with the same settings as above.

This is another reposition of the camera, with the same settings as above.

Intro to Maya: Magnifying Glass

This is the first proper bit of modelling and rendering I've done for the course, following the tutorial on the CGAA Tutorials page.

This is the first render I created, showing the magnifying glass without a smooth modifier applied.

This render shows the magnifying glass with the smooth modifier applied.

This is the final render, with the smooth modifier applied and an ambient light in addition to the spotlight.

I will experiment with these basic objects I am creating and upload any interesting alterations I come across, simply as a method of practicing and memorising the skills I am picking up.

Basic Modelling in Maya

These are simply screen captures of the development of some basic objects in Maya. I followed Simon's presentation as far as I could without getting lost, and the resulting screen captures are the point where my brain went "woah, woah, what?" and I stopped.

I will be completing these models on Wednesday the 5th (you can hold me to that), as that is the only day this week where I can dedicate an entire day to finishing these basic models.

Intro to Maya (well, sort of, but not really)

These are the first renders I've produced whilst on the course, although I kind of feel like I'm cheating a little, seeing as I've loosely (very, very loosely) used Maya in the past. So what? Sue me.

I kind of made a building of sorts by just extruding bits here and there and lighting the scene with a basic spot light.
